Obituary for WYCKOFF

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 23, 2011

Edward J. Wyckoff, 52, won his long battle with cancer as he went to be with his Lord, Monday, January 3, 2011. We say he won because his faith and love only deepend thoughtout many years of terminal illness. Cherished husband of Anne Wyckoff and beloved father of Edward Wyckoff Jr. Despite constant pain, he always tried to comfort his son and disabled wife, who cared for him at home. Like his father whom he praised, Ed quietly served God, country, and family. Ed was formerly Financial Aid Supervisor for the School of Medicine at the University of New Mexico, helping students get loans and scholarships. He earned his Master's Degree in History from UNM while working full-time there. He earned the "Dabney Award" for best graduate essay, and received several work-related awards, including the Student Service Award (2003), while employed at UNM. The following quote is typical of the 70+ letters nominating him: "Ed's fantastic attitude, his endless patience, and his financial expertise deserve high recognition. I know I speak for all of my classmates when I say that it has always been a great pleasure to work with him, and to have him take such good care of us." Originally from Boston, MA, Ed graduated Boston Latin School in 1975. He earned a B.A. from Harvard College in 1980, and M.A. in History from the University of New Mexico. Survived by four beloved members of his MA family, mother, J. Frances Wyckoff; sister, Dr. Patricia Wyckoff; niece, Genevieve Minori; and brother, Francis Wyckoff. Preceded in death by his treasured father, Francis L. Wyckoff; and brother, Donald Wyckoff. Services to be held Sunday, January 30, 2011 in the UNM Alumni Chapel at 3:30 p.m. Donations may be made to the Voice of the Martyrs, the Ed Wyckoff Emergency Fund for UNM, or call (505) 301-6668 if you wish to help the Wyckoff family directly in their time of need.
