Jose (Mel) I. Baca, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on January 20, 2011, with his loved ones at his side. Jose is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Stella; his children, Anita Aragon and husband, Eric, Gloria Mendoza and husband, Gilbert, Peggy Garcia and husband, David, and Joe I. Baca and wife, Liz; his sisters, Nora Ortiz, Stella Alarid, Merlinda Sandoval and husband, Filandro, and Emily Duran and husband, Ben; his brother, V.J. Baca and wife, Yvonne; grandchildren, Valerie, Bee, Vanessa, Erika, Joe I. III, Monique, and Justin; great grandchildren, J.J., Chance, Jolyssa, Andy, Urijah, and P.J.; and extended family members. Jose was preceded in death by his daughters, Victoria and Seferina. Jose was retired from the City of Albuquerque Liquid Waste Department, after 28 years of service and was an A.P.S. Crossing Guard for 22 years. Visitation will be Monday, January 24, 2011 from 9:45 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW, with a Rosary to be recited at 10:15 a.m. by Deacon Lorenzo Castillo and Deacon Bob Lewis. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the Rosary at 11:00 a.m., Father Gene Gries, presider. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Candido Alarid Jr., Carlos Alarid, John Rael, George Urioste, Leroy Baca, and Antonio Padilla. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe I.
