Beatrice Kubat passed away early in the morning of January 18, 2011. She was born May 10, 1922 to John Linhart and Catherine Rejlek Linhart in Union Pier Michigan. She was the youngest of their three children. She was an infant when she moved with her mother and brothers from Michigan to Chicago, Illinois. She told many stories about growing up poor on the south side of Chicago and how her brothers Jim and Raymond (especially Jim) looked out for her. After she graduated from high school, she went to work as an executive secretary to Heinz Deiterich at Hub Plating Works in Chicago. Her memories of Heinz are enduringly fond. She married Frank Kubat on May 16, 1942 and when he was drafted into the Army in October of 1942, she visited him at Camp McCoy near Sparta, Wisconsin until he was deployed overseas. After Frank returned from the war, they lived and worked in the Chicago area until the mid-1950s when they became determined to explore new opportunities elsewhere. In their drive across the west, they visited Albuquerque where they fell in love with the city, the mountains, and the weather. In 1955, she and Frank moved to Albuquerque where she worked as an executive secretary (for the Albuquerque Theaters and Gould Hypnotherapy), and bookkeeper (for Hatchell Brothers Construction and then Kay's Dinette). Her family and friends will remember her for her independent spirit and strength of will. She was preceded in death by Frank, her husband of nearly 59 years; and her brothers James and Raymond. She is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly Martin (husband Joe) and Karen Fitzpatrick (partner Mark Guerin); her grandson, Shane Fitzpatrick; her sister-in-law Dorothy Linhart; a special niece, Francine Linhart; and many other much-loved nieces and nephews. Her family wishes to thank the staff of the Kingston Residence Memory Care Unit in Santa Fe, Dr. Kristen Parke, and Dr. Toni Camp for their dedicated care of Beatrice, and the personnel of Ambercare Hospice for their special help. Internment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 10:30 a.m., immediately followed by a friends and family memorial gathering at the Martin residence.
