Obituary for STAFFORD

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 16, 2011

Patrick Morgan Stafford, age 60, passed away on January 14, 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. W. and Georgine Stafford of Trigg, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kristie Stafford; his daughter, Katie; his son, Jess Walter; and his sister, Sue Ellen Turner of Jonesborough, Tennessee; as well as countless other friends and loved ones. Pat was employed by MD Anderson Cancer Center at Presbyterian's Kaseman Hospital. He was a medical physicist that specialized in radiation therapy and an associate professor at the University of Texas. His career in medical physics spanned over 30 years, and he received his advanced degrees from Emory University and the University of Texas. Although he was highly educated, Pat was a very humble man and was loved by everyone he has ever worked with or known. Pat was also an accomplished trombonist and played with Hoffmantown Church orchestra, the Albuquerque Symphony, and the Albuquerque City Band. Pat was an ordained deacon and lived his life serving others. His greatest desire was to serve God by giving of himself through his work and investing his life in the lives of others. Pat's life-long dream was to build and fly his own airplane. He completed his plane in 2009, and he was able to test pilot it with his best friend, Charles Garrison of Charlotte, North Carolina. Most importantly, Pat was the most incredible and loving father and husband. He adored his wife more than anything and was still passionately in love with her after over three decades of marriage. To his children, Pat was the best father that could ever be imagined. He never minded watching the same Disney movie fifteen times in a day when they were children or hearing about the everyday happenings of their lives while they were in college. He was, and still is, their hero. Pat was a family man, and his family will never be the same without him, although we know that he is rejoicing with Jesus. The tentative date for a celebration of Pat's life and reception is February 5, 2011 at Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Details will follow this week on caringbridge.org (patstafford). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to either Pilots for Christ International or Hoffmantown Church Missions, 8888 Harper Drive, N.E., Albuquerque, New Mexico 87111.
