Obituary for MARTINEZ

Gilbert G. Martinez, 85, a life-long resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, January 13, 2011. He is survived by his four children, Patricia Marquart and husband, Richard, Lawrence Martinez and wife, Robley, Anna Marie Loughead and husband, John and Therese Martinez-Loner; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Raymon and Zenaida Martinez; wife, Mary "Peaches"; son-in-law, Rick Loner; granddaughter, Sherie Bernadette Martinez; and brother, Patricino Martinez. He was born on July 28, 1925 in Alameda, NM and graduated from Albuquerque High before entering the United States Navy in 1943. After Gil's honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Albuquerque. He and Peaches were married in 1948. Gil enrolled at St. Joseph's College for almost two years. He then went to work for the Railroad for a year and then took on a part-time job for the Post Office during the Christmas rush and was never told to go home. Forty years later he retired. He and Peaches enjoyed 57 years of marriage during which they fished, traveled, and thoroughly enjoyed their retirement. His love for his wife knew no bounds, taking care of her for thirteen years during her long illness until her death. Gil was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2011, 9:30 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Ennichement will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O.
