Obituary for MAIER

Hallie Evelyn Maier, 80, of Albuquerque, NM passed away on January 6, 2011. She was born August 14, 1930 in Albuquerque at St. Joseph's hospital. Hallie's father worked for the Santa Fe railroad and she spent her childhood growing up in numerous small towns throughout New Mexico and Texas. Her family eventually settled down on a farm in the southwest valley. She was a graduate of Albuquerque High and the University of New Mexico. While attending the University, she met the love of her life -- Jerry. They wed in 1953 and were happily married for 57 years. Hallie went on to become a teacher and coach, and finally became a full-time wife and mother taking care of all of her family's needs. Additionally, she enjoyed crocheting hats and afghans which she donated by the hundreds to hospitals and charities in New Mexico. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Maier; sons, Kenneth and his wife Debbie of Albuquerque, NM, Donald and his wife Jeannine of Grand Junction, CO, and Steven and his wife Michelle of Missoula, MT; She has eight grandchildren: Russell, Mitchell, David, Andrew, John, Krista, Dustin and Darby. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the clubhouse of the Albuquerque Meadows to remember Hallie and to celebrate her life on Sunday, January 9, 2011 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity in her name.
