Obituary for GOODRICH

Samuel Villanueva Goodrich, aged 92, August 30, 1918 in Brownsville, Texas to January 6, 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Goodrich is survived by his three sons, Samuel, Anthony, and Kevin; two granddaughters, Kimberly Glasgow and Samantha Hobbs; and his five great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Kendall Glasgow, Stone, Brooke, and Autumn Hobbs. Samuel served honorably in the United States military for 33 years. He served with Troop B, 12th Cavalry, Brownsville, Texas; with the USAAC in the 49th Fighter Group, Fifth Air Force during WWII; and with the USAF, including tours in Japan, France and the U.S., for the remainder of his career. Sam's final duty assignment was in Japan and he retired from active duty to Albuquerque, NM in March 1971. Sam followed his military service by working at the University of New Mexico library, from which he retired after 10 years. His hobbies and other retirement interests included: traveling with his wife, Estelle; rock collecting, golf, Albuquerque Dukes/Isotopes baseball, UNM basketball, reading, Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame football. Sam was a generous, life-long contributor to multiple charities including the American Red Cross, Alzheimer's Association and the American Cancer Society, to name a few. Samuel will be remembered by friends and family as a man quick to smile and slow to anger. He was a friend to all, enemy to none. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011, 9:00 a.m., at French - University Chapel, with interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
