Obituary for DAUDET

Lula Collins Daudet, a resident of Manzano Del Sol in Albuquerque, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Lula (Lou) was born April 20, 1913 to the Rev. and Mrs. J.S. Collins in Ryan, Oklahoma. She grew up on a homestead near Des Moines, N.M. along with eleven siblings, four of whom died in infancy and childhood. She attended Lake View one-room school through sixth grade and Des Moines public school through High school. She received a B.A. degree from N.M. Normal U. (now Highlands U.) and an M.A degree from Teachers college, Columbia U. She was married to Andre C. Daudet in 1948. Her teaching career extended over thirty-five years in New Mexico, Texas, and New York secondary schools. She and her sister, Ruth Roberts published a book, Pinto Beans and a Silver Spoon, a memoir of their lives in New Mexico. She published many articles and poems in various anthologies and magazines. Lou was a life member of N.M. Retired Educators Assoc., N.M. State Poetry Society, Delta Kappa, and the Albuquerque Museum. She attended Heights First church of the Nazarene. Lou traveled extensively in the U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Bea Collins; nieces, Oleta Saunders, Marilyn Riche, Anne McIntosh, Candace Green, and Clarie Furney; nephews, Gary Sadler, Bob Browning, Charles Browning, and Jeffrey Collins; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. Friends may visit French - University on Sunday, January 9, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 10, 2011, 10:00 a.m., at Manzano Del Sol Good Samaritan Chapel, 5201 Roma NE.
