Obituary for VOLLMANN

Timothy A. Vollmann, 64, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died December 2, 2010. Timothy Vollmann was born November 25, 1946 in Chicago, IL to the late Arthur and Florence Vollmann, and grew up in Southern California. He attended California State University Fullerton where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in journalism in 1968. He served in the Peace Corps in Libya for a year and a half and was in Tripoli when Muammar al-Gaddafi prevailed in a coup in 1969. He received a J.D. in Law in 1973 from the UCLA School of Law. He began his law career as a legal services attorney and a Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellow on the Navajo Reservation in Window Rock, Arizona. In 1975 he joined the Solicitor's Office of the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington D.C. , where he would go on to serve as the Associate Solicitor on Indian Affairs and later serve as the Department's Regional Solicitor in the Southwest Region, in which capacity he served until retiring from government service in 2001. In 1999, President Clinton awarded him the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Executive. After retiring from government service, he started his own law practice specializing in civil rights, natural resources, and Indian Law. He is survived by his spouse Sarah Jo Vollmann of Albuquerque, NM; children, Jamilla Vollmann of Long Beach, CA, Pete Vollmann of Oakland, CA, Chris Rowland of Santa Fe, NM, Bryan Rowland of Albuquerque, NM, Jenny Rowland of Shanghai China; his eight grandchildren; brother Alan Vollmann; and sister Sue Robison. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doctor's Without Borders. A private memorial service will be held for friends and family on December 7th, 201o in Albuquerque, NM.
