Calvin Chavez, 51, resident of Las Cruces, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010. He is survived by his parents, Frutoso and Grace Chavez; brother, Chester Chavez; sisters, Cheryl Chavez, Carla Acosta, and Cindy Carrillo; nieces, Jasmine Carrillo, and Stephanie Chavez; niece and god-daughter, Julie Acosta; nephews, Demetrius Carrillo, and Carlos Acosta; great-niece, Alicia Carrillo; god-daughter, Kristal Vigil. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, George and Frances Chavez; maternal grandparents, Leandro and Odila Salazar; and nephew, Andre Carrillo. Calvin received his Bachelor's degree from NMSU and a Master's from UNM. He worked for the State Engineers Office for 27 years prior to his retirement. Calvin enjoyed traveling and was looking forward to traveling more since retirement. Rosary will be recited Sunday, November 28, 2010, 3:00 p.m., at French - Westside Chapel. Friends may visit one hour prior. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 29, 2010, 9:00 a.m., at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Josephs Dr. NW.
