Obituary for JATERKA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday November 14, 2010

Rosie, the energetic woman whom everyone knew as just Rosie, died at home with her daughter on November 13, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rosie was born in Van Houten, New Mexico, in 1923 to Italian Immigrants parents and was raised on the family farm in Eagle Nest, New Mexico. At sixteen she met and married the only love of her life, Carlo Jaterka. With twenty-two dollars in their pockets the young couple moved to Dawson, New Mexico where Carlo worked in the coal mines. At eighteen Rosie gave birth to their only child, Carol Anne. Relatives used to say that the young family grew up together. In 1949, the Dawson Mines closed and the family moved to Raton, New Mexico, where they lived until they moved to Albuquerque in 1988 to be close to their daughter. After Carlo died in 1999, Rosie, a devout Catholic, became active in church work at Risen Savior Parrish. She also continued to bake her famous "Rosie goodies" for family and friends. She loved her frequent trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii with her daughter, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys, Duke Blue Devils and Atlanta Braves fan. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband of fifty- nine years, Carlo Jaterka; parents, Pete and Angelina Andreoli; brothers, Bernard, Guido, John and Elliot Andreoli; sisters, Anne Bergamo and Edith Ritt. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Jaterka Piper; god daughter, Catherine Bergamo Svaldi; brother, Sam Andreoli; sisters, Elena Cherubini and Katherine Haner; sister-in-law, Gina Andreoli and many nieces, especially Celeste Cherubini who always helped; many nephews, and many friends, She will be missed.
