Dorothy Jelso, 93, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2010. The heart of the family, she was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband John F. Jelso and son, Dr. Damian J. Jelso. She is survived by her brother Wallace and sister Florence of Buffalo, NY; two daughters Carolann Dungan and husband John of Albuquerque and Judy Taylor and husband Larry of Nebraska; and her daughter-in-law Joanne G. Jelso of Albuquerque. Dorothy's grandchildren are: John M. Dungan, John F. Jelso and wife Desiree, Lisa A. Lane and husband Tim, Tony J. Jelso and wife Janay, Gina M. Jelso, Jennifer L. "Mimi" will be missed especially by her 16 great-grandchildren: Josh, Hannah, Zachary, Cody, Orion, William, Kyle, Haley, Jordan, Nicholas, Jayden, Thomas, Sydney, Kaylee, Tanner, and Ryan. Dorothy and John moved with their family to Albuquerque in 1947. A gifted female entrepreneur for her day, Dorothy and her husband John built and opened The Luna Lodge, one of the first motels on Old Route 66 drawing many famous guests. Along with her family, she would go on to create several other successful local businesses. A master in the art of hospitality, Dorothy loved to entertain friends and family-always adding her secret ingredient of "Love" to everything she served. Her longtime friendships were nurtured and enjoyed over a game of bridge. A woman of art and culture, she found enjoyment singing in her church choir, sharing the natural beauty of the New Mexico landscapes through her oil paintings, and serving as an original member of the Tewa Toastmistress Society of Albuquerque. In recent years, she volunteered with the Oasis Reading Program in the public schools. She loved her family and friends deeply, leaving a beautiful legacy of love and service for all to follow.
