Obituary for NORLANDER

Melvin Douglas Norlander, 72, born October 6, 1938, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2010. Melvin was born in Mercedes, Texas the son of the late Louise and Kenneth Norlander. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Fire Control Tech as well as in the Navy Reserves. In 1960, he married his sweetheart, Florence Grace Hawkinson, and together they raised four children. Melvin and Florence just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In his career, he worked as a Civil Servant at Guam's Anderson AFB and as an Alarm Shop Supervisor at Kirtland AFB. In his life, what he enjoyed the most, was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Norlander. He is survived by his spouse Florence; his children, Roy Norlander, Diane Crook, Michael Norlander and Janet Van Why; his brothers John Norlander and Gary Norlander; his granddaughters, Heather Lako, Jenny Crook and Aubrey Tillotson; his great-granddaughters, Eliza and Kharma as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws; and his beloved dog Tipper. He was a wonderful husband, dad, brother, grandpa, great grandpa and uncle and will be greatly missed.
