Arvor Louis Roland age 78 of Albuquerque, New Mexico died on October 12, 2010. Arvor was born March 11, 1932 to Henry and Dorothy Roland. He was educated in Dale Elementary, Dale, TX; H.B. Pemberton High School, Marshall, TX; Masters Degree in Biological Science, Texas Southern University, Houston, TX; Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, and the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, N.M. Church affiliations: St. John Colony, Dale, TX; Galilee Baptist Church, Marshall, TX; Crownpoint Baptist Church, Crownpoint, NM. Arvor served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman and Senior Chief Petty Officer in the Reserves for 34 years. Arvor taught in the Houston, Texas School System; Bureau of Indian Affairs in Crownpoint, NM; University of New Mexico, Gallup Branch and Albuquerque Public School System. He was a ticket taker for the Albuquerque Dukes and the University of New Mexico Lobos. He was a Lions Club member for many years. His service to mankind will be missed. Arvor was married to Verdie Lee Roland for 50 years and had three daughters. He is survived by his sisters, Mae Terry Adams and husband Harvey Adams, Betty Bland and husband Ernest Bland, Shirley Hemphill and husband C.T. Hemphill; brothers, James Roland, Freddie Roland and wife Carol Roland, Eddie Roland and wife Stella Roland; daughters, Sonya Marie Thompson and husband William R. Thompson Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; Angela Lynn Avery and husband John E. Avery of Dallas, Texas; NaDeen Felecia Jackson and husband Scott M. Jackson of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Celeste Thompson, Rayna Thompson, John Avery II, Ashley Avery and Jordan Avery. A visitation for Arvor will be held at French ~ Lomas Chapel on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. A celebration will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 8550 Saul Bell Road, Albuquerque, NM.
