Obituary for DAVIS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday October 17, 2010

Sandra Lee Davis, 64, of Issaquah, WA died October 10, 2010, at her home of natural causes. Sandy was born July 6, 1946 in Junction City, Kansas. She grew up at Edwards Air Force base in California, working as a receptionist at NASA and babysitting Chuck Yeager's kids. She married her husband Jim on December 16, 1967. They had four kids and owned a toy store in Tucson, Arizona before moving to Las Vegas, and then Albuquerque, NM. Most of her professional career was as a technical writer for various aerospace companies. She also had a succession of side jobs, mostly just to ever widen her circle of friends. If you asked her, though, she'd tell you her favorite job of all was being a mother. After living most of her life in the desert, she moved to Washington in 2005, anticipating the future joy of becoming a grandmother. Her hope was fulfilled on May 31, 2009, when she helped to welcome Davis Olivia Mapes into the world. By her friends and co-workers, Sandy will be most remembered for her amazing ability to make and maintain a friendship. While everyone she met was a friend in her eyes, she had a very close knit circle in Albuquerque that she cared for dearly. Her family will remember her for her incredible generosity and willingness to give everything she had for them. She will be sorely missed. Sandy is survived by her husband Jim; daughters, Andra and Kim; sons, Wesley and Spencer; son-in-law, Douglas and his daughter Layne; and her granddaughter, Davis Olivia. She was preceded in death by a son, Scott, who died soon after his birth. A memorial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on October 22, 2010 at Eastridge Church, 24205 SE Issaquah Fall City Road, Issaquah, WA 98029. Pastor Gordon Welk will officiate.
