Obituary for ALFORD

Sue Alford died at 81 on Thursday, September 23, 2010 in Las Cruces, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. Raised in Beaumont, TX, and Riverside, CA, she attended North Texas University in 1950 and upon graduation taught school in Roswell, NM and El Paso, TX. After earning her M.A. in Speech Pathology from NMSU in 1968, Sue worked as a speech therapist and educational diagnostician for the public schools in Las Cruces and El Paso, TX. She also served as the director of the Child Find program for Region XIX Educational Service Center in El Paso for many years. After retiring in 1993, Sue moved to Rio Rancho where she continued to work for the public schools and as a mediator and child advocate for the NM Assistance League. She relocated to Las Cruces in 2004. Sue is survived by her former husband, Hoy Alford and daughters, Shirley J. Alford and Carla L. Alford, of Las Cruces.
