Obituary for BASSETT

Richard Ray Bassett of Alameda, New Mexico passed away peacefully on October 3, 2010 after dealing with cancer on his terms. He was born in Joplin, Missouri on February 19, 1926. At 18, he joined the Navy and was discharged at 20 years of age. He then attended the University of Missouri and earned his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. He put himself through school by playing in a dance band and played saxophone and oboe. Shortly thereafter he got a job offer to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico and work for Sandia Laboratories where he retired after forty years of service. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty years, Charlotte Mary Bassett. Richard is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Carter, and Gayle O'Dell; grandchildren, Brandon Carter, Haley Carter, and Colten O'Dell; and his brother Raymond Bassett. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to The New Mexico Cancer Center, Presbyterian Hospital Oncology Unit, Kaseman Rehabilitation Hospital, Skies Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and AmberCare Hospice. Thank you to all of our dear friends, especially David and Theresa Romero and their children who were our Angels in Richards's time of need, and kept all his family in their prayers. Services will be held Saturday, October 9, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at French, University Blvd. Chapel. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE.
