Obituary for SABATH

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday September 30, 2010

Earl Gabriel Sabath, 58, a resident of Albuquerque since infancy, died Friday, September 24, 2010. He is survived by his sister, Sonia and brother, Joseph, both of Albuquerque; admirer, Carolyn Sabath of Albuquerque; dear cousins, Gloria Sabath of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Stephanie Sabath Schultz and husband, Jake and family of Eureka, CA, and Bernadette Sabath of Hilo, Hawaii. Earl was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Ernest and Rose, his adoring grandmothers, Mariam Salem and Shafiah Sabath, and loving aunts and uncles including Nell, Josephine, Kay and Mary. Earl is also survived by many friends in the Zia Deaf-Blind Club, the American Association of Deaf-Blind, the ARC (his favorite organizations) interpreters, therapists, other professionals and people who saw his goodness and recognized and nurtured his potential. His very favorites were Amy, Fran, Ardith, Lori, Janis, Jan P. and Jan K. Earl lived with his sister Sonia and tried to teach her patience, how to get the most joy and satisfaction out of every day, and acceptance. His memory was phenomenal- especially with numbers, dates, and times. Earl loved people, traveling (especially cruises), good food, pool therapy, PBS, Rachel Ray, Julia Child, and This Old House. He was sweet, gentle, trusting, generous, persistent, eager for new experiences, always wanting a job, to help in some way. He loved filing (unique system) the mail, receipts and most other papers coming into the house. He took pride in finding the utility bills in time for us to pay and the grocery sale ads or any thing else we needed from his "file". His spirit was and is noble and indomitable. In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of his long-standing interests: ZIA, ARC, AADB, PBS, Habitat for Humanity, or Roadrunner Food Bank. A memorial mass will be held Friday, October 1, 2010, 11:00 am, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. A reception will follow at the family home.
