Ira Kitchens, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died Sunday, September 26, 2010. He is survived by his two daughters, Charlotte Ann Santilli and husband, Joseph of Las Vegas, Nevada and Debra Dianne Spencer and husband, Clarence of Lubbock, Texas; three grandchildren, Diane Christine Cox, Bridget Mequela Spencer, and Ryan Christopher Spencer; brother, William F. Kitchens and wife, Fay of Monroe, Louisiana; and numerous other relatives and friends. Ira was preceded in death by his wife, Janie "Jeri" Jerolene Kitchens in March 2004; his parents, William Floyd and Mary Richardson Kitchens; and sisters, Katie Livingston, Lillie Mae Crenshaw, and Florence Arrant; and brothers, Artis Kitchens, Stephen Henry Kitchens, B. F. Kitchens, and Floyd Kitchens. Ira was born September 30, 1927 in Newton, Mississippi and graduated from Bonita High School, in Bonita, Louisiana. After graduation, he proudly served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. After discharge, Ira and Jeri Spurlock were married on December 7, 1946 and began 57 years of marriage. They moved to Great Falls, Montana where Ira worked for Thisted Motor Company. Upon moving to Albuquerque with his family, Ira owned and operated Kitchens Motor, located across from the University of New Mexico. He later went to work for C-T Engineering and received numerous sales awards. Ira became an ordained Deacon at Bel-Air Baptist Church and taught Sunday School throughout his life time. He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Friends and family may visit French-Wyoming Chapel, Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at French-Wyoming Chapel, Friday, October 1, 2010, 9:00 a.m. with interment following at 11:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
