Obituary for BYRD

Virgil W. "Pooch" Byrd, age 90, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Virgil is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elsie; and sons, John, Tom, and David. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Wade, Shawna, Wes, Jared, Kasey, and Ty; and three great-grandchildren. Virgil moved from Texas to New Mexico at the age of seven and lived in many towns across New Mexico working for Mountain Bell Telephone Company, but Silver City remained his favorite. He retired from Mountain Bell as a district supervisor in 1979 after 39 years of service. Racing horses, hunting, and fishing were his passions. He truly loved New Mexico and through the years developed many friendships which he cherished. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 1, 2010, 11:00 a.m., at French - University Chapel.
