Obituary for WATSON

Patricia "Pat" W. Watson, a longtime resident of Artesia, NM and more recently Rio Rancho, NM, died September 26, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Wheatland, Wyoming on October 19, 1933 and grew up in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She attended the University of New Mexico, where she met Fred A. Watson. They eloped on November 1, 1953 after knowing each other for three weeks. She lived in Artesia with Fred, beginning a career as an internal auditor for the First National Bank of Artesia when her children were in high school. After earning her real estate broker's license, she started and built a successful residential real estate company, Watson & Associates. She retired to care for her husband through his own battle with cancer, and moved to Rio Rancho in 2005. Pat was an enthusiastic volunteer for The Friends of the Library of Rio Rancho, Inc. and a docent for The Albuquerque Museum. She was a very intelligent, energetic, optimistic and determined woman who inspired everyone around her. She understood business, had a great sense of humor and loved to get everyone organized and going. Pat will be dearly missed by her friends and family. She is survived by her son, Fred A. Watson and her daughter, Patti Watson Leake and husband, Patrick Leake, of Albuquerque; her sister-in-law Martha Watson Linnell and husband, Bob Linnell; nephew, Neal Linnell and wife, Jennifer and daughter, Abbey, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and her beloved dog, Bertie. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2903 Cabezon Road, Rio Rancho, NM.
