George Belcheff, Jr., 84, passed away on September 8, 2010. The Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010, in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel with Msgr. Harold Waldow officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p,m, -- 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at Cox Funeral Home. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Sofia, NM by Cox Funeral Home. George was born at the family homestead in Sofia, New Mexico to George and Vasilca Belcheff, on February 2, 1926. He was the youngest of six children. His parents were new Americans from Bulgaria and Macedonia in 1907 and 1912. He grew up at the ranch, and graduated from Clayton High School. After serving his country with the US Army during WWII, George moved to Lubbock, Texas, graduating from Texas Tech with his Bachelors in Agricultural Science. He was a member of Kemas Fraternity, the predecessor to Phi Gamma Delta, and played for the Red Raiders basketball team. While at Tech, George met the "Top Beauty on Campus" of 1952, Addie De Rose Wittenburg of Lometa, Texas. They married and had four children who helped them celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2002, before she died in 2006. George was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Mary Comba-Hudson, and Polly Hart. Mr. Belcheff is survived by his sisters, Evanca Atchley of Albuquerque NM and Donca Dixon of Santa Fe, NM; brother Steve and wife Alba of Raton, NM; and brother-in-law Carl Hart of Dallas, TX; daughters, Jana Adams and Keye Chayne of Amarillo; sons, George III and wife Melanie of Keller, TX, and Gregg and wife LuAnn of Cypress, TX; grandchildren, Dustin Adams, Dara Harris and husband DaShawn, Keena Sandlin and husband Brad, Dania Stabel and husband Justin, Megan, George IV and Parker Belcheff, Anna Baggett and husband Michael, and Jay Young, Austin and Christen Belcheff; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Caleb Harris, Preston and Sophie Sandlin, Katy Josslyn and Brody Stabel, and Ryan Baggett. In lieu of flowers, if desired, to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Amarillo.
