Olga Young, 97, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at The Cottages Senior Living Center on September 16, 2010, after suffering for many years with Alzheimer's Disease. Olga was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on November 3, 1912, to Italian immigrant parents, Anselmo Maoloni and Enrica Paoletti, both from Monteprandone, Italy. She was the third of five children. Olga grew up in Matteson, Illinois and attended Thornton Township Junior College and then the University of Illinois, graduating in 1935. While at the University she met her future husband, Robert Young, who later became known for his work as a Navajo linguist, when they both took a Spanish class studying Don Quixote. Olga taught school in Illinois for several years and then married Robert on December 30, 1939. After her marriage she moved to the Southwest, living first in Arizona and then New Mexico. Olga was a devoted wife and mother, an avid gardener, and a lady of great warmth and generosity. She never lost sight of her Italian heritage, maintained close ties with her family in Illinois, and retained her ability as an adult to speak her first language. Olga's husband preceded her in death in 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Sue, of Albuquerque. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 22, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE.
