Manuela "Mela" Otero, 79, went to be with our Lord Thursday, August 12, 2010. She was preceded in death by parents: Manuel Saavedra and step-father: Escolastico Chavez and mother Maria Chavez; husband of 48 years Antonio S. Otero; infant daughter: Dorothea Geraldine Otero; son: Antonio Carlos Otero; granddaughters: Rosana and Tiffany Bransford; brother: Tony Saavedra; sister: Flora Silva and brothers-in-law: Elfego Orona, Clovis Otero, Manuel Otero, Lorenzo Otero, Joe Chewiwi, Jesus Perea and Ray Jaramillo; sisters-in-law: Tillie Otero, Viola Otero, Socorro Vallegos, Tochita Chewiwi, Tonita Perea, and Adela Martinez. Mela is survived by son: Ted Otero and wife Ramona; daughters: Dolly Raley and husband Steve, Judy Bransford and husband Kerry, Debbie Nail and Darleen Roche and husband Eddie; brother: Adam Chavez; brothers-in-law: Greg Silva; Bernie Vallejos sisters: Annie Jaramillo and Flossie Orona; sister-in-law: Lillian Otero; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; uncle: Manuel Chavez; loving and devoted caregivers Theresa Nourse; and family and many other beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She enjoyed cooking, gardening (she was exceptional at these things), and dancing to the Mucura with her husband. Mela's Life Celebration will begin today (Saturday) with a visitation with the family at 1:00 p.m. followed by Rosary at 1:30 p.m. and Mass at 2:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish (3674 Hwy 47, Peralta, NM 87042).
