Obituary for MCCLANAHAN

James F. McClanahan, 77, passed away July 18, 2010. He was born to Fred and Sophia McClanahan in Geneva, Kansas. After living in many different parts of Kansas, his family settled in Holton, Kansas where Jim played football and graduated from Holton High School in 1951, with a graduating class of 50 people. Jim was a Deputy Sheriff in Topeka, Kansas until he joined the US Army, serving for 2 years. Upon his discharge from the Army he moved to Albuquerque, NM. He joined the Albuquerque Police Department, where he had a 22 year career in many different departments, although his favorite assignment was Range Master, where he trained many young recruits. After retirement from the police force he became a Special US Marshall for 15 years, retiring again in 1995. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, shootist and the ultimate around the house putterer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte Yates McClanahan, of Albuquerque; a sister, Elizabeth M. Green, of Kingwood, Texas; two daughters, Beth M. Dick and husband Patrick, of Albuquerque and Robin L. McClanahan, and boyfriend Robert J. Overmyer, of Albuquerque; and a step-daughter, Jane E. Crossman and family, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Virginia R. Culbertson, LaVerne M. Conklin and Freda L. Gately. Memorial Services will be held at French's Mortuary at 10500 Lomas, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112 on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the American Diabetes Association in Mac's memory.
