Janice Saavedra, 49, passed away, Saturday, July 10, 2010 at her home. She was born July 23, 1960 in Albuquerque, a daughter of Arthur and Sophie Padilla Savedra. Janice loved her family dearly. She was an excellent High School Athlete. She taught physical education for 23 years at Mary Ann Binford Elementary and loved working with her students. Janice established the mediation program at her school - the longest continuous program in the State. She organized the annual school Fun Run and many other child-centered programs. She is loved and will be missed by her students, friends and loving family. She loved her Dallas Cowboys and attended many games. Janice loved the outdoors, especially camping and gardening. Survivors include her life partner, Deborahrose Poster of 23 years; her father, Arthur, of Bosque Farms; sister, Josie (husband Candy) Gabaldon, Los Lunas; brothers, Mike (wife Ida) Saavedra, Los Lunas and Steve (wife Barbara) Savedra, Bosque Farms; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sophie; three nephews, Mikie, Danny, and Tom. A visitation and Rosary will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Dr. NW. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 9:00 a.m., at the Church. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
