Obituary for ESQUIBEL

Patricio "Pat" B. Esquibel, 1911-2010, age 98, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010, at the Belen Meadows Nursing Home. On September 25, 1911, in the little town of La Joya, NM, Patricio was born to the humble family of the late Leandro y Marillita Barela Esquibel. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and was raised in a very Catholic home environment, with strong moral values and discipline. Pat graduated from La Joya High School in 1930 with high honors. He won several awards for reading the most books. Pat or "Pate" as he was known left a valuable legacy to his family. By his examples, he instilled work ethics and skills. He was a hard worker all his life. Pat was an obedient son. Being an older son, he tended to his father's ranch and farm. He built many windmills, fences and cattle guards. Pat was known for growing the biggest watermelons in La Joya. In his later years, he worked road construction, mainly on bridges. Pat was well liked and respected by his foremen that he was allowed to hire several young people from the area. "Our Dad never had a bad day. Ne never uttered a bad word. He never spanked his children. It was through his example of values, morals and principles that he gave all of us many valuable lessons. He was a man of very few words, gentle and kind. Even in his old age, he never complained about anything; his illness or even about the weather". He was also preceded in death by his oldest son, Leandrito at the young age of three; brothers, Emilio and Victor Esquibel; sisters, Ferminia Lovato, Rosaita Baca and Dulcinea Peralta; grandson, Joey Esquibel and son-in-law, Leo Trujillo. Pat is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 77 years, Amelia Carrillo Esquibel; his children, Glissie Esquibel and wife, Domie of San Antonio, TX, Martha Trujillo of Los Chavez, NM, Roy Esquibel and wife, Tommie of Albuquerque, NM, Frankie Esquibel of Belen, Margaret Montoya and husband, Jim of Los Lunas, NM and Tony Esquibel and wife, Geraldine of Albuquerque; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-granddaughters. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a viewing, on Wednesday, June 30 at 6:00 p.m. and a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Michael Trujillo, Raymond Esquibel, Robert Montoya, Francisco Esquibel, Tony Gonzales, Victor Martinez, John Trujillo, Darrell Trujillo, Leonared Esquibel, Maria Esquibel and Milinda Esquibel.
