Obituary for LUCIANI

Nick Roger Luciani, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend died peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2010 after a long illness. A native of New Mexico, he was born in Mora, NM on July 9, 1921. A graduate of St. Mary's High School, class of 1941, he was a member of the student council and played on the varsity football and basketball teams. He enjoyed sports his entire life. Nick attended the School of Mines in Socorro, NM. He served his country in WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a Mechanic Prop Specialist with the 41st Bomb Group, 820th Bomb Squadron. He received the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and a Presidential Citation. He was a member of American Legion Post 72. He spent his early years working for his father in the coal mining and lumber business in northern New Mexico. He was employed for many years by O.D. Cowart Construction Company and was an expert heavy equipment operator and semi-truck driver. In his later years, he and his wife managed the El Berrendo Bar. He then went into business with his nephews and son-in-law doing clean-up on housing construction sites. After retirement, he worked part time at Crist Machinery. Nick spoke English, Italian, and Spanish fluently. He loved to hunt and fish and was the best of "joke" tellers. Nick was a man of integrity who loved his family unconditionally. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicolo Luciani and Angelina Scaramucci Luciani, who immigrated from Fabriano, Italy in 1910; Louise (Vescovi) Luciani, his wife of 58 years: and daughter, Janina Luciani; brothers, Aristodemo "Demo" Luciani, Ulisse "Julie" Luciani, Attilio "Chin" Luciani; and a sister, Maddalena Luciani. He is survived by his daughters, Carol Moye and husband Mike, Dina Sanchez and husband Robert, and Jeanne Luciani, all of Albuquerque, NM, Teresa Phillips and husband Robert of Wasilla, AK, and Barbara Tabaka and husband Lenny of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren, Janina Fuller and husband Shawn, Briana Rogers and Nicholas Phillips and wife Angela, all of Wasilla, AK, Justin Tabaka of Rio Rancho, NM, and Marie Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM; great-grandchildren Madeline, Abigayle, and Riston Fuller and Jacob and Antonio Rogers, all of Wasilla, AK; as well as many nephews and nieces. A visitation will be held Monday, June 28, 2010, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., at French - University Chapel. Memorial services will be held Friday, July 2, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at French - University Chapel. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors.
