Obituary for BRUSUELAS

Ernestina Lopez Brusuelas, 88, resident of Rio Rancho, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010. She is survived by a son, Edward Brusuelas Sr. and wife, Stella of Tularosa; four grandchildren, Monica Madrid Romero and husband, Daniel, Damian Madrid, Edward Brusuelas Jr. and wife, Kristine, and Maria Brusuelas Mathiesen and husband, Thomas; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Esperanza Padilla and Emily Levine; brother, Michael Lopez; and numerous nephews. She was preceded in death by daughter, Marie Madrid. Ernestina was born in Ojo Caliente, NM to Salvador and Josefa Lopez. She was a graduate of Albuquerque High School in 1943 and immediately joined the US Army as one of the first Hispanic women to serve in World War II. She was an active member of the secular Franciscan Order of the Catholic Church, and she volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul at Sacred Heart Church in the Barelas neighborhood. Ernestina retired from civil service with the U.S. Navy after 35 years. Rosary will be recited Sunday, June 13, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., at French - Westside Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 14, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 301 Camino del Pueblo in Bernalillo, with Father Stephen Imbarato, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, at 1:00 p.m. Friends may visit French - Westside Chapel, Sunday, June 13, 2010, one hour prior to rosary.
