Dr. Thomas J. Burgess, 74, longtime resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on April 12, 2010. He was born on April 23, 1936 in Chicago, IL to Jack and Marie Burgess, who have both preceded him in death. In 1964, Thomas graduated from Northwestern University with a Ph.D. in Science, Philosophy, and Electrical Engineering. He went to work at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory as a group leader in Electronics. Thomas joined the staff at Sandia National Laboratory in 1979, working on experimental and theoretical analysis of magnetic reconnection. In 1990, Thomas joined Century University in Albuquerque, NM as the Faculty Advisor for BS, MS, and Ph.D. students in engineering. Many of his students came from Los Alamos Laboratory. In 1999, he joined Tec Med, Inc. as Vice President for Technology. Dr. Burgess is survived by one Aunt, Margaret Levinson, of Chicago, IL; and four cousins, Delores Aleccia of Auburn, CA, Joseph Bellante, Jr. of Mesa, AZ, Gayle Smith of Redondo Beach, CA, and Arthur Bellante, of Riverside, CA.
