Obituary for LOPEZ

Ted A. "Diz" Lopez, 67, passed away May 9, 2010 at his home in Albuquerque following a lengthy illness. He was born October 3, 1942 in Santa Fe, NM to Ted M. and Josephine Lopez. He graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1961. He was a retired electrician and a proud member, officer and brother of the IBEW LU 611. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, camping and going for wood. As his illness progressed, he took up gemology, jewelry making, and photography. He had a quick wit and a way of always making people laugh and smile. Ted was preceeded in death by his mother, Josephine Bustamante Lopez, father, Ted M. Lopez, sisters Mary Jo Moolick, Christine Marie Lopez, and granddaughter Antoniette Melissa Lopez. He is survived by his Aunt Annie and husband Michael Tony Sandoval of Santa Fe, Teddy wanted to thank Aunt Annie for "asking me to be the ring bearer at your wedding and I'm sorry for stepping on your dress". Children Monica Varela and husband Daniel of Pecos, Ted T. Lopez and wife Dorie of Santa Fe, Corrine Varela and husband Toby of Pecos, Antonio Lopez and girlfriend Gina of Pecos, Alfonso Lopez of Albuquerque; Grandchildren TJ "T4" Lopez, Jered Lopez, Antonio Lopez, Jr., Dominique Varela, Rianna Lopez, and Alex Lopez; Mothers of his children: Gloria Lopez of Santa Fe and Rose Lopez of Albuquerque; Siblings Cordelia Reynolds of McKinney, Texas, Lita Chavez and husband Walter of Placitas, Mary Jean McCoin of Albuquerque, Michael Lopez and wife Maria of Chama, Maggie Lopez of Santa Fe, and Anne Marie Gonzales and husband Robbie of Tijeras; many beloved primos, primas, sobrinos y sobrinas, extended family and friends. Ted wanted to extend his sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. William Berlin, Dr. Elizabeth Palmer, and the Heart Hospital of New Mexico nurses and staff. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, May 12 at 7:00 pm at Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Santa Fe. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 13 at 10:00 am, also at Cristo Rey Church in Santa Fe, with Internment to follow at Santa Fe Funeral Options and Memorial Gardens on Rodeo Road in Santa Fe. Grandchilren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Varela of Santa Clarita, California, Larry "Rouzer" Lopez of Phoenix, Arizona, Santiago "Champ" Lopez of Santa Fe, Ray Lopez of Pojoaque, Adrian Bustamante of Santa Fe, Eugene "Geno" Lopez (in memoriam). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ted's name to the Heart Hospital of N.M. Foundation, 504 Elm St, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
