Obituary for WATSON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Monday May 03, 2010

Marion of Rio Rancho went to be with the Lord on April 21, 2010. She was born on July 27, 1914, in New York City. Shortly after graduating from New York University, she married John Watson. Next to her love for her children (John Watson, and Pat Jaeger), Marion's greatest pleasure was public service. She held numerous positions in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She loved to tell stories about her adventures with "her girls" at summer camp. She founded a youth development organization for young women who were troubled. Marion loved gardening, cooking and baking, craft work, and all kinds of animals, especially cats. Marion and John came to New Mexico in the late 1960s. She quickly made her mark on the community. She helped start the Sandoval County Senior Citizen center and the Meals-on-Wheels program. She was a great leader in the home-extension program. A confident of many New Mexico governors, Marion helped rewrite the New Mexico state constitution. She taught classes in state government to high school students in summer seminars. Marion was a thirty year member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Rio Rancho. She was active in the craft group and in encouraging donations to Store House West. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Contributions may be made in her honor to the Corrales Historical Society where a memorial garden is being established.
