Obituary for SKARSGARD

Doris Skarsgard, 86, New Mexico and formerly of Roseglen, died on Monday, April 12, 2010 in a New Mexico hospice facility. Doris was born September 27, 1923, in Clayton, Iowa, the daughter of J.H. and Viola (Selleck) Wilmeth. She spent her childhood in Princeton, Iowa, where her father was a dredge engineer on the Mississippi River. Doris spent many hours playing near the rivers around Davenport and Princeton. As a teenager, she resided with her aunt Gracie O'Hare in St. Paul, MN, where she attended high school. Doris was united in marriage to Karl D. Vangsness, April of 1943 in St. Paul, MN. They eventually made their home on the family farm in Roseglen, ND. This union was blessed with three children, Roxy, Jan and Don. Karl died in 1970. Doris married Arnold Skarsgard in Minot, ND on July 15, 1983. They made their home in Albuquerque, NM. Doris entered Torrey Pines Nursing Home in Rio Rancho, NM on January 15, 2006. Doris was a member of Immanuel Lutheran of Roseglen, a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary as well as a member of the Tanoan Country Club of Albuquerque. She loved to travel and was also a avid reader. Surviving family includes: daughters, Roxy Denney, Albuquerque, NM and Jan (Arnie) Ellwein, El Dorado Hills, CA; son, Don (Beth) Vangsness, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Rondi Hartert, Jason Ellwein, Steven Hayer, Lisette Henry and Karl and Jack Vangsness; great-grandchildren, Alex Denney, Katie Foglietta, Natalie, Jason and Devyn Procka, Isabella and Clarissa Ellwein and Jacqueline and Alexandra Henry; step-Children, Gordon (Patience) Skarsgard, Bob (MJ) Skarsgard, Candice (Roger) Pearson, Danny (Debbie) Skarsgard, Tammy (Brad) Haugen, Rockey Skarsgard and Betty (Joel) Wold; sister, Willie (Jack) Beyer, Davenport, Iowa; and many stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Karl Vangsness and Arnold Skarsgard; and a sister, Lily Mae Scannell. A funeral service was held Monday, April 19, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Roseglen, ND. Interment: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Roseglen, ND Memorials: Memorials are preferred to Ambercare Hospice of New Mexico.
