Obituary for LOFTIN

Ashley D. Loftin, 96, resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Loneta; his son, Steven Loftin and wife Margie; granddaughters, Sandra Loftin, Lisa Inagawa and husband Jamie; Ariel Bedell and husband Adam; and Josephine Lewis and her husband Robert; brother Frank Loftin; and five great - grandchildren. Ashley was preceded in death by his son, Jim Lee Loftin; his sister, Jayne Ford; and his brother, Vernon Loftin. Ashley was born in Tulia, TX, where he grew up until leaving to enter Texas Tech University. He earned a degree in electrical engineering in 1937. He joined the U.S. Army and served with the U.S. Army Signal Corp during the war and continued to serve in the reserve until he retired with the rank of Lt. Col. In 1946, Ashley formed his company, A.D. Loftin and Associates, specializing in electrical power transmission and distribution, serving rural electrical cooperatives throughout the southwest. After retiring in 1984, he enjoyed all kinds of fishing, including deep sea, lake, stream, and ice. He also spent time gardening, tracing his family tree online and became active in the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution). He volunteered at the special collections library and public school. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at Marietta National Cemetery in Marietta, GA where a family memorial will be held at a later date.
