Obituary for KALLMAN

Dorothy Elaine Hedblom Kallman peacefully left us for her heavnly home on March 21, 2010. She was the daughter of Peter Hedblom and Huldah Tingholm Hedblom. She was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 4, 1921. She attended Minneapolis schools and graduated from West High School in 1929. She later attended Bethel Academy and the University of Minnesota. Her church home was the Elim Baptist Church where she became a Sunday school teacher and also played the pipe organ beginning at age 14. She had a spiritual experience at age eight and then was baptized in the Baptist faith by Rev. R.A. Arlander. In 1936 she married Elmer B. Kallman and three children were born to them: Mary, Linda and John. In 1947 the family moved to Ashland, WI. While there, Dorothy returned to school, graduating from the Ashland County Teachers College and in 1966 received her Bachelor's Degree from Northland College in elementary education. She taught in the Ashland Public School System from 1962 to 1977, first at Lake Shore school and then at Bay City school. She had been a member of the Salem Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and for a time played the organ. Later she was the organist at the Saron Lutheran Church. After the death of her husband, she moved to Paul, ID in 1978 where she lived for 22 years. While there, she was a member of the Paul First Baptist Church where she again played the organ for several years and was involved with being an accompanist for several musical groups. She also was a member of Ruth and Naomi ladies group. Dorothy was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Burley, ID. Dorothy corresponded with relatives in Sweden in the Swedish language and had a good command of conversational Swedish. In December, 1999, Dorothy moved to Albuquerque, NM where she lived with her son John and family until her death on March 21, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer; daughters, Mary and Linda; her brother Herbert Hedblom (Donna); and her parents. She is survived by her son John (Donna); seven grandson; two nieces; and one nephew. She had requested cremation and interment will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Ashland, WI at a later date.
