Obituary for SANCHEZ

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 28, 2010

Samuel P. (Sam) Sanchez, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, born March 17, 1942, went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2010, after suffering a massive heart attack a few days prior. While his health had been compromised due to a 30-year battle with Diabetes, he kept his and others' spirits high with his sense of humor, his positive outlook, and his strong love of the Lord and his family. Sam was a happy, fun, social person who loved people and was deeply concerned about the needs of others. He could make friends with anyone who would listen. Sam had many hobbies that enabled him to bring joy to family and friends; he enjoyed food, making his famous secret guacamole, chopped green chile (and stew), collecting magnets from others' adventures, sweeping, reading Scripture, attending Isotopes baseball and Lobos basketball games, debating various issues, fishing, woodworking, hunting, and spending time with his dogs, grandchildren, family, and friends. He was a good and devoted husband whose life centered on his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his home and family. Sam is preceded in death by his mother Flora Sanchez and father Arthur Sanchez of Albuquerque, and his sister Joan Fisher of Kerrville, Texas. He is survived by his soul mate and love of his life of 47 years, Laura; five children, Michael (Dee) of Roswell, NM; Tammy (Mike) Godin, Deanna (DeeDee) Mike Brunick, Angie (Matt) Gomez, all of Albuquerque, and Matt (Ja) Sanchez of Edgewood, NM; 14 grandchildren, David, Ben, and Nathan Sanchez, Evan and Madison Godin, Austin and Keiana Brunick, Jonathon, Zario, and Cybrus Gomez, Brianna Silva; and Mariano, Adrian, Jr., and Vanessa Martinez; one great-grandchild, Xavier Silva; one sister, Lourdes (John) Elias; brother and sisters-in-law, Edward (Mary) Hester, Paul (Judy) Hester, and Bill Fisher; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family in Albuquerque, Texas, Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, California, and Maryland, extended family, Mary Brunick, MaryAnn Brunick and Tim Woods, Leslie, Rob, and Logan Segelhorst, and Rod Sandoval; and all of his neighbors. A special thanks to his many, excellent doctors, hospital staff at Lovelace, and especially his dear friend and doctor, Dr. Brent Frame. Sam's favorite words were "I love you always, all ways; and Don't worry be happy." Our memories of Sam are of abundance and will remain in our hearts forever. A celebration of his life will be held on April 1, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming Blvd, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 (505) 821-0010.
