Ignacio U "Iggy" Garcia, 87, born and raised in Belen, died January 30, 2010 in Yuma, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose, who he met in England during the war; son, Urbano David Garcia and wife Rhonda; daughters, Carol Pool and husband Dave, and Gail Garcia and boyfriend, Thomas Maltsberger; 7 grandchildren, Patrick, Ona, Joseph, Nicholas, Nolan, Valerie and Toni Ann; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Steven Garcia and wife, Donna; and many other nephews, nieces, family and friends from Albuquerque, Belen and Yuma, including his good friend Floyd Lopez. Iggy was preceded in death by his parents Desiderio and Sylvestra, two sisters and one brother and so many of his fellow soldiers from WW II. He was a graduate of Belen High School and worked at Manzano Base for many years. Mr. Garcia served in the US Army Air Corp flying in B-17s in the 8th Air Corps during WWII. His family would like to express a special thanks to Heritage Hospice of Albuquerque and Yuma Hospice to their tender care during his illness. Memorial services will be Monday, March 22, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Chapel, with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
