Obituary for PATTERSON

Myrtle Payne Patterson - April 4, 1919 to February 2, 2010. Myrtle was born in Houston, Missouri and as the daughter of a Methodist minister, lived in numerous towns throughout Missouri during her childhood. She attended Central Methodist University for two years until the great depression forced her into employment. She married Ken Patterson in 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri, and in 1952 the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Myrtle was employed as a technical editor for Sandia Laboratories, retiring in 1984. A joyful Christian and an active member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was among the first female Elders on the Session; and was elected to the Presbytery. Myrtle volunteered in the Logos youth program at Immanuel and volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program and was a Stephen Minister. She was an avid reader, gardener, craftsperson in needle-point and knitting, but most of all enjoyed every member of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kenneth Patterson; her father, the Reverend Homer T. Payne; her mother, Helen Curtis Payne; her sister, Eleanor Payne Vogel; and her brother, H.T. Payne, Jr. She is survived by her five children, daughter, Barbara Patterson Levin and husband Michael of Santa Fe; her four sons, John Patterson of Virginia, Don Patterson and wife Dega of Albuquerque, Robert Patterson of Azel, TX and Jim Patterson of Albuquerque; her sister-in-law, Joanne Payne of Walnut Creek, CA; her brother-in-law Art Patterson of Fishkill, NY; her ten grandchildren and her nine great grandchildren. The Memorial services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Myrtle has requested that support be given to International Health Ministries, "Water for All" a program of the Presbyterian Church which drills water wells in villages throughout the world that would otherwise not have access to fresh drinking water.
