Candido Baca, age 96 a lifelong resident of Trujillo, New Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at his home. He was born in Shoemaker, New Mexico on October 8, 1913 to the late Flavio Baca and Adela Bonney-Baca. He was united in marriage on August 19, 1948 to Mary Vigil. Candido Baca was a lifelong farmer, rancher, and business man. He was a World War II veteran who served in Pine Bluff, Arkansas as an MP. He also served as a board member of the Mora-San Miguel Electric Co-op for six years. During his life he enjoyed being involved in politics and actively participated in causes that involved social issues of his time. Candido never met a stranger, and he welcomed everyone into his home and his life. He will be remembered for his indomitable spirit, determination, and wit. A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of the San Ysidro Church in Trujillo, New Mexico and also served as mayordomo of the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Flavio and Adela Baca; wife, Mary Baca; brothers, Antonio Baca, Joseph Baca, and Samuel Baca; sister, Maria B. Pena. He is survived by his daughters, Theresa Vigil and husband Leo of Las Vegas, NM and Mary Alice Collatz and husband Arlan of Corrales, NM; son, Art Baca of Trujillo, NM; grandchildren: LeaVigil, Marcos Vigil, Candace Baca and Jeremiah Collatz; great-grandchildren: Katherine Esquibel, Matthew Vigil and Makoa LaPillo; great-granddaughter, Lilyana Lopez; sister, Feliciana Gonzales and daughter Pearl of Albuquerque, NM; nieces and nephews: Rose Pena, David Baca, Flavio Baca, Consuelo Lucero and husband Abel, Linda Baca, Gloria Baca, Adela Baca and daughter Bonnie, and Martha Baca; numerous: cousins, other relatives, and many many friends. Rosary devotional services will be conducted Monday, February 8, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, NM. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at 11:30am at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Leo Vigil, Arlan Collatz, Richard Baca ,Ralph Moya, Jeremiah Collatz and Joey Herrera. Serving as honorary bearers will be all his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter. He will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel on Sunday all day and Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. where family and friends may call.
