Eddie G. Montoya, 72, a resident of Las Vegas, NM, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, April 13, 1937. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Felecita and Dr. Robert Taylor Sr.; his parents, Martha and Basilio "Poppy" Montoya; a sister and brother-in-law Tillie Cortese and husband Frank; and a brother, Basilio Jr. He was raised by his grandparents as well as his parents in the rural community of La Jara, NM. He often would tell stories of helping Dr. Robert Taylor deliver newborn babies and treating the sick. He is survived by his loving companion of 14 years, Ruth Jimenez of Las Vegas, NM; Mackie Thrush and husband Dan of Albuquerque, NM the mother of his four loving daughters: Audrey Madrid and husband Phillip of Las Vegas, NM, Ruby Montoya, Debbie Abeyta and husband Terry and Marti Currier and husband Trevor all of Albuquerque, NM; five brothers: Johnny Montoya and wife Bertha, Phil Montoya, George Montoya, and Joe Montoya and wife Sherri all of Albuquerque, NM and Arthur Montoya and wife Rae of La Jara, NM; 12 grandchildren and by a large extended family and many friends. Eddie was a soft spoken man of many talents who enjoyed general construction work. He retired and worked for many years as a petroleum equipment technician for Mitchell Equipment of Albuquerque, NM. He was an avid outsdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed his retirement with Ruth, family, and friends. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 31, 2010 from St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd., Las Vegas, NM. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the Santo Nino Church in La Jara, NM. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the churchyard cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
