Obituary for TAPIA

Juanita Eloisa Tapia, 94, of Albuquerque, New Mexico went to meet our Lord on Friday evening at Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by members of her loving family. She was born at El Porvenir, New Mexico in 1915. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Felipe Tapia, Jr.; her mother and father, Carolina and Tomas Gallegos of Las Vegas; sister, Helen Garner and husband, Mike of Las Vegas; brother, Tony Gallegos and wife, Hafiza of Albuquerque; her daughters, Clarita Tapia of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Edwina Segura of Rio Rancho; son, Eugenio Tapia of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Angelo Tapia, Victoria Pizarro, Carolyn McCall, Lori and Philip Salas; great-grandchild, Angeli Madrid; sons-in-law, Leo A. Ortega of Los Alamos, Joe McCall of Kentucky, Terry Howerton of California and Victor Pizarro of Albuquerque. Juanita had 11 children. Surviving are Carolyn Ortega of Albuquerque; Faye Whalen of Kentucky; Lucy Delgado and husband Albert of Las Vegas, New Mexico; Angie Salas and husband Manuel of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Mary Louise Stone and husband Randy of Thornton, Colorado; Rosemarie Howerton of Rio Rancho, Margaret Pizarro of Albuquerque, and Eduardo Tapia of Cheyenne, Wyoming. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. After her husband died, she was left with six children to raise by herself. She moved to Albuquerque from Las Vegas in 1963 and worked at the Girls' Welfare Home until her retirement. She was a very loving mother. Her nickname was "Mama Goose." Juanita belonged to the Extension Club for many years and was their President for three years. She loved going to the Volcanes Senior Center. She also loved dancing, crafts, crocheting, music, going to the casino, and being with her family. For the last two years, she has lived with her daughter, Carolyn, in Albuquerque. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at French - University location. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Santuario De San Martin Catholic Church, 8321 Camino San Martin SW, Albuquerque, NM with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
