Barbara Adele West Pollock, 78 years old of Las Cruces, NM died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at La Posada. Barbara was born March 15, 1931 in Celeste, TX to Theodore "Ted" and Mabel West. She graduated from high school in Celeste, TX, and attended East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, TX. She served in the U.S. Navy in Washington, DC and Philadelphia, PA until 1954, when she married Dr. James L. Pollock in Bermuda where Dr. Pollock was serving with the U.S. Navy. After assignments in Bermuda and Camp Pendleton, CA, the couple settled in Albuquerque, NM in 1958. In 1976, they moved to Ft. Bayard, NM, relocating to Las Cruces, NM in 1987. Throughout her life, Barbara was treasured by all who knew her for her intelligence, wit, individualism, and strong support of both family and friends through thick and thin. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James L. Pollock; and two children, Valerie Kay Pollock and James T. Pollock. She is survived by two daughters, Jacquelyn G. Starkey and Barbara Kling of Las Cruces; one step-daughter, Leslie Pollock of Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren, Christina B. Pollock, Joslyn Brown, Heather Starkey, James Eli Starkey, Samantha Kling, Valerie Kling, and Anna Kling; and three great-grandchildren, Kayli Davis, David Brown, and Nevaeh Zuniga. A Memorial Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel. With Rev. Norm Story Officiating.
