Oralia Alice Tafoya, 89, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009. She is survived by four sons, Anthony Tafoya, Laurence Tafoya and wife, Carole, Ronald Tafoya and wife, Hoa, and Ted Tafoya; four grandchildren, Ryan Tafoya and wife, Gina, Erik Tafoya, Christopher Newman, and Alixandria Tafoya; brother, Hector Gonzales and wife, Honey; five sisters, Virginia Murguia, Alma (Jane) Darnell and husband, Marvin, Connie Armenta, Evelyn Chacon and husband, Eddie and Judy Sanchez and husband, Bobbio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anselmo (Sam) Tafoya; parents, Herman and Mary Gonzales, brothers, Ralph Gonzales, Lawrence Gonzales and wife, Josie, and Anthony H. Gonzales. Alice was born in Corrales and raised in Albuquerque. She was a dedicated mother and enjoyed being with her family, she was a consummate cook and homemaker. Alice also enjoyed traveling which included trips to Europe and Hawaii. She was very proud of her heritage which dated back to the original founders of Corrales. Her ancestor Gonzales Bernal de Bas came with Juan de Onate in 1598 and the family settled in Corrales. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 Stover Avenue SW. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Ysidro Cemetery in Corrales.
