Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday December 16, 2009

Julie Meadows, 36, passed into God's loving hands on December 13, 2009 after a 15 month courageous battle against brain cancer. Surrounded by her family she came to peace. Born Julie Elizabeth Bundy on May 6, 1973 in Pittsburgh, PA she also lived in Massena, NY, Lynchburg, VA, and Albuquerque, NM where she attended La Cueva High School and went on to attend college at New Mexico Tech. After obtaining a chemical engineering degree she came to Los Alamos where she married Darren Meadows and worked at LANL before becoming a full time mom. She continued her education earning an MBA at UNM Anderson School of Business. Living in this beautiful place she developed a love of mountains and outdoors. She enjoyed skiing, mountain biking, climbing Colorado's 14'ers, and numerous backpacking trips. Her favorite adventures included hiking in Denali and Glacier National Parks, the Wind River Range in Wyoming, and rafting the Grand Canyon. With her new adventurous spirit she and Darren took up the challenges and sites of many areas around the country and beyond. Following the birth of two sons, Hayden, six, and Cameron, four, she became involved in community projects and programs and traded in the tent and high mountain peaks for a camper and roasting marshmallows with Darren and the boys. As a member of the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Pi Sorority she worked on the Christmas Adopt a Family Program. She supported world programs to help struggling families and children and programs and projects closer to home including working with children on the Gallup Navajo reservation. Julie always enjoyed the closeness and support of many friends in Alpha Zeta and the community and co-workers and would without fail be the first to volunteer and put her full effort toward a worthy cause. Julie will always be in the hearts of her parents, Linda and Hugh Bundy of Las Cruces; and a brother, Glenn Bundy along with his wife, Niki and three children of Columbus, Ohio. She also was welcomed as a daughter into Darren's family of Wayne and Jeanette Meadows of Los Alamos; and the extended family of Kevin and Erin Meadows of Buena Vista, Colorado, Michelle and Pete Beltran of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brenna Meadows and fiance Mike Gonzales of Irvine, California, and great-grandmother Esther Kopper of Los Alamos. Julie was lovingly cared for by the White Rock Presbyterian Church and a whole community of friends and neighbors whose tireless support carried and continues to carry the family through. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the White Rock Baptist Church; burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. at the Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations in honor of Julie to the Julie Meadows Memorial Fund for Brain Cancer Research at Los Alamos National Bank. The family of Julie Meadows has placed their trust in DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. These anonymous words were special and inspirational to Julie: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away.
