Obituary for JAMES

David P. James, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1982, died on December 11, 2009. He was born in Tatum, New Mexico, on October 21, 1920. From November 1943 to January 1946, he served in the U. S. Army stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was married on February 14, 1946, to Neta Williams James. He was a member of University Heights United Methodist Church in Albuquerque and the Masonic Lodge in Lovington, NM, and past president of the Southwestern New Mexico Firemen's Association. He served as Fire Chief in Tatum from 1952-1956, in Alamogordo from 1956-1966, and at the New Mexico State University in Las Cruces until 1982. He also worked for the State Fire Marshall's Office in Santa Fe. He was named "Fire Fighter of the Year" by the New Mexico State Firemen's Association. He was predeceased by his wife Neta and survived by daughters, Linda Peterson and husband Gary of Albuquerque and Joyce Tallant and husband Kevin of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Donavan Peterson and wife Samantha of Kansas, Nathan Peterson and wife Lorene of Albuquerque, Luke Tallant and wife Janelle, Ruth Tallant and husband Eric McAdoo, and Benjamin Tallant and wife Sherry, all of Oklahoma; and 3 great-grandchildren. Services will be held, Thursday, December 17, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at University Heights United Methodist Church, 2210 Silver SE, with Pastor Mike Stahl officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
