Obituary for GARLAND

Augustus (Gus) Hill Garland 75, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 9, 2009. He was born in Riverside, OK on May 17, 1934 to Jennie and Rufus Cummins Garland, Sr. and was a long time resident of Las Cruces and Albuquerque. As well as serving his country in the Army during the Korean War era, Gus attended the University of Arkansas, was an avid reader, a lover of the law, a pianist and composer. His family wishes to thank the many friends and caregivers that have been so supportive over the years. Gus was predeceased by his mother, Jennie Garland; his father, R.C. Garland, Sr.; his brother, Rufus Cummins Garland, Jr.; his sister, Virginia Garland and her daughter, Carolyn. He is survived by his brother, Edwin Garland and his wife, Jaylen Garland; nephew, Matthew Garland, his wife Challee Garland, and their son, grand-nephew, Ryan Garland; nephews Stephen Garland and Jacob Garland, their mother, Jeanne Garland; niece, Melyssa Garland and husband, William Luther. He will be greatly missed. There will be a graveside ceremony to remember Gus at the Masonic Cemetery in Las Cruces, Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences can be submitted at www.danielsfuneral.com.
