John Benjamin Driver, Lt. Col., U.S. Army, retired, 89, went to be with his Lord, Friday, December 4, 2009. He was born July 13, 1920 in Lima, Ohio the son of Henry Jacob and Hazel Leona Ashby Driver. He married Sally K. Swain on November 19, 1980 at First Christian Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army after 24 years of service. He was National Director of the Red Cross in Santa Monica, California for 11 years. Survivors include his wife Sally of Albuquerque; one son and two daughters; Lynn and her husband, Harold Swartz, Duncanville, TX; Kurt F. and his wife, Debbie Schmehl, Nakomis, FL; Karla and her husband, Dr. Jim Romero, Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Glenn, Farmville, VA. Mr. Driver was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; two sons, William "Bill" Driver; John Driver; one daughter, Denise Michelle; one sister; Jane McWilliams. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 10101 Montgomery Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a contribution to the American Red Cross.
