Herman "Ray" Walters, 78, much loved husband, father, brother, and community member of Jemez Springs left this world suddenly on Friday, November 27, 2009. Ray was born November 12, 1931 the son of Fred and Cordie Walters in Wilson, Texas. He moved to New Mexico in 1964. Ray honorably served our country in the Air Force during the Korean War, but his most recent battle was against cancer - which he won. He put down roots in the Jemez Valley in 1968, a place he cherished until his passing. Ray is survived by his wife, Michelle "Shelly"; his children, Danny, Mark, Curt, Steve, and Jesika; one brother, Dwayne; and sisters, Billie and Ruth; Ray was also the proud grandfather of eleven; and great-grandfather of six. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. A Graveside Service in Jemez Springs is scheduled for Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, followed by a celebration of Ray's life at the American Legion Post 75.
