Lawrence was a fourth generation funeral director with Salazar & Sons Mortuary, which has served the community since 1918. His ancestors have resided in NM since 1600. Lawrence attended St. Marys Catholic School for nine years and went on to graduate from Albuquerque High. As a high school student, he loved drama and received the Outstanding Thespian award. Multi-talented, he was an artist, woodworker, avid gardener, builder, and a fabulous cook. His Christmas empanaditas were looked forward to by his luckiest friends. His love of woodworking inspired him to establish his own business, Azuelas Woods, which he owned and operated for many years. He was, however, happiest working in his garden. Probably his greatest talent was his ability to make everyone around him laugh, especially his wife Phyllis. He will be remembered for his compassion and his endless generosity. Visitation for Lawrence will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Salazar & Sons Mortuary from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary to be recited at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 7, 2009 also at Salazar & Sons Mortuary where the Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Deacon Andrew Chavez. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Watermelon Mountain Ranch Animal Center, 1512 Deborah Rd SE #203, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
