Obituary for LUCERO

Petrita Lucero passed away peacefully on December 3, 2009. She was surrounded by her loving family. Petrita was born October 13, 1916 in La Jara, NM to Andres and Merencia Maestas. She was the third of fourteen children. As a youngster she loved to care and nurture the baby sheep. She would bottle feed and care for them until they were strong enough. In school she loved math, she graduated from 8th grade. In her middle twenties she met her true love Pedro Lucero, at a local wedding dance. They would soon get engaged, marry, and remained married for 66 years. Pedro was drafted to the Army to serve his country during World War II. Petrita loved cooking, baking, canning and making tortillas. She especially loved raising and taking her grandchildren to school. She adored her great-grandchildren and cherished every moment with them. She is survived by her children Luis Lucero and Carolyn, Eddie Lucero and Louise, Andrea Montoya and David, and Lawrence Lucero and Corrine; brothers, Andres and wife, Carolina, Alex and wife, Texan, Bennie and wife, Reyna; sisters, Dolores Lovato, Lucinda Chavez, Susie Segura and Maria Garcia; her sister-in-law, Petrita Lucero was a great comfort to her also. A Rosary for Mrs. Lucero will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at San Jose de los Duranes Church at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 7, 2009 also at San Jose de los Duranes where the Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Lucero, Lawrence J. Lucero, Carlos Montoya, John Montoya, Miguel Lucero, and Diego Lucero. Honorary pallbearers will be Denise Lopez, Lisa Pate, Stephanie Garcia, Natalie Lucero, Vanessa Conley and Marialuisa Arnold. Arrangements by: Salazar & Sons Mortuary 400 Third St. SW 247-4124
